Everyturn Mental Health: Improving patient outcomes with data

Everyturn Mental Health have been able to improve patient outcomes through an end-to-end data transformation project, and service Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR) to meet GDPR requirements via the build of a bespoke data application.

Case study details.
Since 2024, Clekt have been working with not-for-profit, mental health provider Everyturn Mental Health to revolutionise its approach towards data, leveraging the Snowflake platform. This project has consolidated Everyturn Mental Health’s data from siloed operational systems into a single location, laying the foundations for AI, ML and Data Science to be applied and further drive business efficiencies.

Project Highlights:

  • With the help of Clekt, Everyturn Mental Health’s data and security processes exceed the high standards required by the NHS and the Data Alliance Partnership Board (DAPB) simplifying audits and streamlining Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR).
  • Following the project delivery, Everyturn Mental Health’s data is now being used in a much more economical way and operational teams can access information much quicker than before to improve patient outcomes.
  • Everyturn Mental Health have been enabled to mask their sensitive data in line with governance and automate the process to ensure it happens throughout its lifetime.
  • This project has lay the foundations for Everyturn Mental Health to implement AI, ML and Data Science logic into its data architecture and further drive business efficiencies.

From the initial stage of a technical review of Everyturn Mental Health’s existing implementation through to the delivery of a digital transformation programme, the full patient and clinician journey was evaluated to ensure accurate patient data, relevant security in line with governance and to drive internal adoption.

James Springham, Commercial Director for Clekt commented on the project:
“Clekt are a data business. We help our customers get value from their data through data science, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI). We enable our customers to surface new insights about their business through data drive, competitive advantage and ultimately future proof their business. It’s really important for us to build true partnerships with our customers and help them to achieve value from their data.”

Jayne Routledge, Technology & Digital Director at Everyturn Mental Health added:
“With the help of Clekt, we have made huge steps in not just meeting the minimum data set [expected by the NHS], but exceeding the quality of data that is required”
“We work in real synergy with Clekt and I see them as an extension of our team – they are fundamental to our data journey.”

For Everyturn Mental Health, unlocking the value of their data required a significant data migration of operational systems and building the concept of a ‘Golden Patient Record’ across the various contracts and lines of business. Using the five of the key Snowflake pillars (Data engineering, data lake, data warehousing, data application and data sharing) through Clekt’s consulting services, Everyturn Mental Health have been able to improve patient outcomes through an end-to-end data transformation project, in addition to the build of a data application to service Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR) to meet GDPR requirements.

John Slator, Head of IT Architecture at Everyturn Mental Health added:
“We’ve now been able to make sure that we’ve got all our data fully masked, fully compliant with our governance, and we’ve brought in automated procedures to ensure it happens not just at an initial stage, but through-out.”
“What we’re already seeing is data being used in a much more economical way. We’re able to supply data very quickly to our operational teams and that expertise has come from Clekt’s recommendations.”

Jayne Routledge, Technology & Digital Director at Everyturn Mental Health:
Everyturn Mental Health are a national mental health, not-for-profit provider. We are commissioned by the NHS and local authorities. We deliver mental health services to community, crisis, NHS talking therapies and NHS 111.

It’s really important for me, as the Technology Director, that we partner with organisations that understand what our future landscape is going to look like, but it’s also really important that we have safe pairs of hands that understand our journey and will support us on that.

From one of the initial conversations with Clekt, it was very, very evident that they shared our enthusiasm, our passion and an understanding around their expertise and what they could bring around our data journey.

John Slator, Head of IT Architecture at Everyturn Mental Health:
Our data landscape before we migrated to Snowflake, was a lot of siloed databases. Every service we had, had their own database and there was no connection between any of them. This made our analytics very difficult and producing any reports or doing any data analysis had become a very long and tedious task. We had a large data team just to deal with those requests and we found we were writing lines of queries to get the simplest bit of information. So, when we migrated Snowflake, it allowed us to consolidate all those siloed databases into one. This gave us a 360 view of that data, allowing us to do our analytics in a much simpler format.

What’s really great about Clekt is they’re not just interested in the data; they want to know the full patient journey; how that data is being utilised by both our patients and our clinicians in every step of the way. This allows them then to develop solutions and make recommendations that are not just fit for now, but also for the future.
What Clekt provide that’s different to our internal teams is they have a vast knowledge of the data landscape, not just in our sector but throughout the whole data world. Some of those commercial sectors that we might not have knowledge on are leading the way in data with things that we can utilise and bring into our organisation. We find that when they [Clekt] look at our projects, they look at their knowledge internally, how they’ve done it for other people, how other sectors are doing it and they bring that knowledge and recommendations back to us.

What we’re already seeing is data being used in a much more economical way. We’re able to supply data very quickly to our operational teams and that expertise has come from Clekt’s recommendations.

Jayne Routledge, Technology & Digital Director at Everyturn Mental Health:

The NHS have an increased focus on the value of data across the sector and it is very important that we at every turn demonstrate a high quality of data. With the help of Clekt, we have made huge steps into not just meeting that minimum data set but exceeding the quality of the data that is required.

John Slator, Head of IT Architecture at Everyturn Mental Health:
The type of data we are holding is very sensitive. What we always need to make sure is that we’re delivering very high standard of data security, data integrity and making sure that our patients are comfortable that their data is always safe in our environments.
We’ve now been able to make sure we’ve got all our data fully masked, fully compliant with all our governance and we’ve brought in automated procedures that now will ensure that happens not just at an initial stage, but throughout now we have our data journey for the forthcoming years.

Jayne Routledge, Technology & Digital Director at Everyturn Mental Health:
No issue is too complex, no ideas that we have are taken off the table. We work in real synergy with Clekt and I almost see us see the team as an extension of ourselves. They are fundamental to our data journey and what that looks like in the future.
